Range Day Checklist: What to Pack

Nothing cuts a range trip short like realizing you left your ear pro on the kitchen counter. Here’s a simple list to run through before you head out.
Safety first
- Eye protection. Shooting glasses rated for impact.
- Ear protection. Plugs, muffs or both. Doubling up is smart at indoor ranges.
- A hat with a brim. Keeps hot brass from bouncing behind your glasses.
- A basic first aid kit. Include a tourniquet if you know how to use one.
Firearms and ammo
- Firearms, cased and unloaded for transport.
- The right ammo for each gun, labeled. Double-check that your 300 BLK and 5.56 are separate.
- Magazines, loaded only once you’re on the line if the range requires it.
- More ammo than you think you need. Our 500-round 9mm case covers a lot of pistol drills.
Targets and tools
- Paper targets, staples or a stapler, and pasters.
- A small toolkit or multitool, plus a cleaning rod for stuck cases.
- A notebook or phone to log groups, zero changes and malfunctions.
Comfort
- Water and sunscreen for outdoor ranges.
- Gloves and a shooting mat if you’re shooting prone.
Before you leave
Learn the range rules, especially cease-fire procedures. Clean up your brass and targets, and wash your hands before you eat.
